AMIGHINI SERVICES

European Door Services

Once you have selected your European door and antique bronze hardware of your choice, you are now ready to choose the finish. Now is the time to choose the glass if your door does not come with a glass or you just want to change it – the most popular options are clear or aqualite. Some doors allow insulated glass.

FINISHING PROCESS, you have 2 options: Stain and varnishPrimer and paint

Stain and Varnish

1. Adjustment of door

(If your door requires any adjustments like cutting, trimming, shaving or modification of moldings, now is the time. Estimated time: about 5 days)

Note: if your door has iron inserts now is the time to remove, polish and clean. Additionally, provide 2 coats of clear locker.

2. Hardware (estimated time: about 1.5 days)

  1. Install hardware: make holes, check if it works, etc)
  2. Uninstall hardware

3. Repair with wood filler

(little cracks, small holes, etc. Estimated time: 1 day)

4. Sanding & door preparation to receive stain

(By now you must have had chosen the stain of choice)

5. First coat staining (Estimated time: 1 day)

Note: we must wait for it to dry for about 3 days depending on the humidity

6. Second coat of stain

(Before we do the second stain we sand it and see what parts need a second coat)

Note: at times we must do retouching since these are salvaged antique doors with over 100 years old and at times the sun and/or weather make the bottom portion lighter in shade than the upper section. Other times it is needed for more stain presence.

7. First coat of Varnish: we take our doors to the painting booth. There we give the first coat of varnish marine satin finish. Estimated time: 1 day)

Note: we must wait about 4-5 days for it to dry depending on humidity.

8. Sanding again

(Before we do the second stain we sand it and see what parts need a second coat)

9. Second coat of varnish: we take our doors to the painting booth again. There we give the thicker second coat of varnish marine satin finish. Estimated time: 1 day)

Note: we must wait about 4-5 days for it to dry depending on humidity. If our experts consider it needs another coat, we will repeat the process again.

10. For costumers with Amighini antique bronze hardware this is the time when we polish it and do the finish.

11. Once the door dries we reinstall the hardware
